Overview
Renewable energy is derived from resources that are generally not depletable, such as the sun, wind and water movement. These sources of natural energy can be converted into usable energy in several ways, including a number of relatively mature technologies such as hydropower, biomass and waste combustion.
Renewable energy may substitute for oil use and conventional electricity production, and may curb greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, and other waste generation from energy use. It supplies about 8% of national energy demand. Renewable energy equipment is increasingly recognized as a "critical" pollution-prevention technology.
