Recent news stories have referred to the policy of the Essex Region Conservation Authority to purchase land to connect Point Pelee National Park to Hillman Marsh. This is a matter of major environmental significance for our region and the whole of the north shoreline of Lake Erie.

Lakefront preserve a gem for Port Clinton

On November 18th, officials from Port Clinton will proudly cut the ribbon celebrating the acquisition of 25 parcels along the Lake Erie shore. Known as the Lakefront preserve, the land includes over 12 acres of coastal wetlands, a marsh and a small beach.

Congressional negotiators reached a deal Tuesday that would effectively exempt 13 ships that haul iron ore, coal and other freight on the Great Lakes from a proposed federal rule meant to reduce air pollution.
