As the only federal research and development center devoted entirely to the river ecosystem, the St. Lawrence Centre conducts research programs aimed at studying the various ecosystems and keeping the knowledge base about the river up to date.

Monitoring
MiCorps: Michigan Clean Water Corps
Michigan DEQ, Great Lakes Commission
The Michigan Clean Water Corps (MiCorps) is a network of volunteer monitoring programs in Michigan, which was created through an executive order by Mich. Governor Jennifer M. Granholm to assist the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) in collecting and sharing water quality data.

Restoration Efforts
American Heritage Rivers
The American Heritage Rivers Initiative, established by an Executive Order in September 1997, is a program to help communities restore and revitalize waters and waterfronts. Rivers affected in the Great Lakes Region: Cuyahoga, Detroit, Hudson, Potomac, Upper Mississippi, and the Upper Susquehanna and Lackawannna rivers.

Fox River Watch
A project of the Clean Water Action Council of northeastern Wisconsin, this site contains extensive information for the public about PCB contamination of the Fox River and Green Bay, the proposed cleanup, and health effects of exposure to PCBs.

Friends of Milwaukee's Rivers
FMR's mission is to protect water quality and wildlife habitat in the river corridors and to advocate for sound land use in the Milwaukee, Menomonee, and Kinnickinnic River Watersheds.

Friends of the Chicago River
The mission of Friends of the Chicago River is to preserve, protect, and foster the vitality of the Chicago River for the human, plant, and animal communities within its watershed.

Friends of the Detroit River
Learn about public participation in the stewardship, restoration and preservation of the Detroit River ecosystem. Includes an aerial tour of the river and background on Belle Isle and the Humbug Marsh.

Greater Detroit American Heritage River Initiative
The Detroit River, part of the connecting channels linking lakes Huron and Erie, is one of 14 U.S. rivers honored with the AHR designation in 1998. The Initiative is a multi-stakeholder process that promotes environmental stewardship, encourages economic development, and celebrates history and culture.

Illinois RiverWatch Network
Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
This statewide partnership of organizations and individuals monitors, restores and protects the rivers and streams of Illinois.

River Alliance of Wisconsin
A non-profit organization dedicated to the protection, enhancement and restoration of the region's rivers and watersheds through selective dam removal, minimizing the impact of hydropower and strengthening grassroots organizations.
