Overview
Three categories of data were compiled into the Great Lakes Hydrometeorological Station Directory: Station identification data for each station, hydrologic data catagories being collected at hydrologic stations, and meteorologic data categories being collected at meteorologic stations. For referencing and data selection purposes, supplemental watershed identification information was added to the data record for each point.

Station Identification Data
stnname - Station name
stnid - Agency station id number
lat - Station latitude(decimal degrees)
long - Station longitude (decimal degrees)
agency - Agency from which data was obtained (USGS, Envir. Can.)
provstate - Province or state in which the station is/was located
datactr - Data center at which station records are stored
stdate - Start of period of record
enddate - End of period of record
numyrs - Number of years recorded

Meteorologic Data Categories
synop - Synoptic observations (X, H or blank)
hrly - Hourly weather (X, B, C, D, E, F, G, H or J)
temp - Daily readings of max and min temperature (X or blank)
precip - Daily values of liquid, freezing or frozen precipitation (X or blank)
rate - Rate of precipitation (Whether collected or indication of method)
wind - Wind data (Autographic record type)
evap - Net water loss from pan, calculated lake evaporation (A, R or blank)
sunsh - Hourly values of bright sunshine (R, S or blank)
rad - Radiation values by type (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N or blank)
ozone - Ozone readings (T, S, O or blank)
upprair - (X, W, T or blank)
snow - Water equivalent and snow pack depth (@ or blank)
tower - (X or blank)
airq - Air quality (T, A, C, B, P, G, H, J or blank)
region - (P, W, C, O, Q, A, D, H or blank)

Hydrologic Data Catagories
flow - (1 = data collected, 0 = data not collected)
level - (1 = data collected, 0 = data not collected)
depth - (1 = data collected, 0 = data not collected)
conc - (1 = data collected, 0 = data not collected)
bedm - (1 = data collected, 0 = data not collected)
bedl - (1 = data collected, 0 = data not collected)
load - (1 = data collected, 0 = data not collected)
point - (1 = data collected, 0 = data not collected)
waterq - (1 = data collected, 0 = data not collected)

Watershed Identification Information
unitname - River basin name (English)
lakebasin - Lake basin name if within Great Lakes basin
huc - 8-digit Hydrologic Unit Code (US)
basin - US hydrologic unit name
region - 1st section of US HUC code
subregion - 2nd section of US HUC code
acctunit - 3rd section of US HUC code
hydrounit - 4th section of US HUC code
div - 1st section of Canadian hydrologic division code
subdiv - 2nd section of Canadian hydrologic division code
subsubdiv - 3rd section of Canadian hydrologic division code
subdivname - Canadian hydrologic subdivision name (English)
nomsubdiv - Canadian hydrologic subdivision name (French)
