Mapping Tools

Twelve tools are built into the Toolbar in the upper right corner of the Mapping Interface. A brief description of each follows.

	Zoom In
	Click once anywhere on the map to cause the map to recenter and zoom in on the spot you selected, or click and drag the mouse to define a box and the map will zoom in the extent you described.
	Zoom Out
	Click once anywhere on the map to cause the map to recenter on the spot you selected and zoom out, showing a larger portion of the Great Lakes region.
	Pan
	Click and drag the mouse to move the map area visible in your browser window without changing the current map scale.
	Identify
	Click once on a data point to retrieve information about data stations located there, or click and drag to retrieve information about multiple stations in a larger area.
	Select (by Rectangle)
	Click once on a data point to select it for processing, or click and drag to select multiple station points over a larger area.
	Overview Map
	Click to turn the overview map on or off.
	Zoom to Extent
	Click to zoom to the full extent of the mapped area for this project.
	Zoom to Active Layer Extent
	Click to zoom to the extent of the theme highlighted as "active" in the legend.
	Zoom to Previous Extent
	Click to zoom to the previous extent shown in the main map window.
	Query
	Click to start the Query Tool. This tool will allow you to locate stations based on characteristics recorded in the station directory. The tool uses SQL ("Structured Query Language") database queries.
	Clear Selected Points/Data
	Click to clear the selected points from memory and start selecting new points or composing a new query.
	Print
	Click to print the map or data windows to a printer connected to your computer.
