What's New Valpo to look at buying Lake Michigan water The Northwest Indiana Times (3/13) The city of Valparaiso, Indiana's Utilities Board should be ready by July to make a recommendation whether the water supply should continue to come from the ground or from Lake Michigan via another supplier. Lakeshore gets shuttle funding South Bend Tribune (2/20) The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is set to receive $193,400 from the Federal Transit Administration for a shuttle service to connect visitors traveling by commuter rail to the park along Lake Michigan's southern shore. Michigan City, New Buffalo wrestle with low Lake Michigan water level The Northwest Indiana Times (2/19) The low water levels are evident at the public boat launch in New Buffalo, Mich. Officials in Indiana and Michigan are considering whether dredging projects are needed where boats may have difficulty getting into and out of Lake Michigan. Steel production falls 15,000 tons in Great Lakes states The Northwest Indiana Times (2/12) Raw steel production in the country's Great Lakes region was 642,000 tons last week, according to estimates from the American Iron and Steel Institute. Groups seek tough conditions on Enbridge pipeline The Associated Press (2/5) A coalition of environmental groups has pressed Indiana regulators to impose tough conditions on Enbridge Energy's plans to replace 50 miles of crude oil pipeline near Lake Michigan. Steel production rises 5,000 tons in Great Lakes states Northwest Indiana Times (2/5) Raw steel production in the country's Great Lakes region was 657,000 tons in the week that ended Saturday, according to estimates from the American Iron and Steel Institute.
