Northeast-Midwest Institute The Institute is a policy research center providing staff support to the House and Senate Great Lakes Task Forces. Policy research focuses on invasive species, ecosystem restoration, island conservation, water management, brownfield redevelopment, economic benefits of sediment remediation, energy, and other issues important to the Great Lakes. INDEPENDENT RESOURCES Automotive Information Center The Michigan Electronic Library Provides information on environment, international trade, journals, research and safety as they relate to automobiles. Great Lakes Center for Truck and Transit Research University of Michigan Funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation, the center develops new knowledge to enhance the safety and efficiency of truck and bus operations. Ohio Turnpike Commission Provides construction information, fare schedules, mileage tables and more. Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission Provides maps, new releases, construction reports and trucking information.
Railways INDEPENDENT RESOURCES Cincinnati Railroad Club A not-for-profit, educational organization with a membership of over 300 people who have a hobbyist's interest in railroads ranging from the early iron horse of the 1800's through the present and into the future. National Railway Historical Society Provides links to Great Lakes chapters, such as Central New York, Grand Trunk Historical Society, Horshoe Curve Chapter and Thousand Lakes Region. Pennsylvania Railroad Technical and Historical Society Works to preserve the heritage of "The Standard Railroad of the World" for future generations. Soo Line Historical and Technical Society SLHTS is a non-profit organization dedicated to the study, documentation, and preservation of the history of the Soo Line Railroad Company, its predecessors and its successors.

Central and Arctic Region Canadian Coast Guard Chamber of Maritime Commerce The CMC is the industry association that brings together all sectors of the economy which depend on, or are affected by, a viable marine transportation system. Great Lakes Region U.S. Maritime Administration Harbor House Publishers, Inc. Publishes the Great Lakes Seaway Review and the Great Lakes Seaway Log. Lake Carriers' Association The LCA is the trade association representing U.S.-Flag vessel operators on the Great Lakes. Marine Historical Society of Detroit Provides a focal point for individuals and organizations interested in and concerned with the history of the Great Lakes and its maritime heritage. Ninth District U.S. Coast Guard St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation The Great Lakes Maritime Research Institute Established in December 2004, the GLMRI represents a consortium of the University of Minnesota-Duluth and the University of Wisconsin-Superior. This first-ever institute dedicated to the study of Great Lakes maritime commerce is pursuing research in marine transportation, logistics, economics, engineering, environmental planning and port management. Transportation and Sustainable Development Program Great Lakes Commission The program promotes sustainable, resource-based economic activity and the use, development and maintenance of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence transportation system. USACE: Great Lakes and Ohio River Division U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) INDEPENDENT RESOURCES Algoma Central Corporation The largest inland shipping company in Canada, Algoma operates a modern fleet of 23 dry bulk cargo vessels, 20 of exclusively within the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence. Canadian Shipowners Association The association monitors Canadian and U.S. Government legislative/regulatory actions, political trends, and public policy relating to navigation, safety, and the Canadian shipping environment. Historical Collections of the Great Lakes Bowling Green State University The institute collects, preserves and make available to scholars, students and the public, historical materials documenting the Great Lakes region and connecting waterways. Indiana Port Commission Provides information on Indiana's three main ports: International Port/Burns Harbor at Portage, Southwind Maritime Centre at Mount Vernon and Clark Maritime Centre at Jeffersonville. Thunder Bay Harbour Commission Information on the port and other related maritime activities. Upper Lakes Group Inc. Upper Lakes Group Inc. is a Canadian company that has played a significant role in the development of shipping and marine activities in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway with a primary focus on bulk transportation. Wisconsin Marine Historical Society For over 35 years, the society has been a premier maritime organization, devoted to discovering, collecting, recording and preserving materials related to Great Lakes maritime history.
