Chicago canal to be poisoned to stop Asian carp

Early next month, more than 200 people are expected to participate in a two-day, $1.5 million project to poison nearly 6 miles of canal just southwest of Chicago. The idea is for biologists to temporarily kill the river so a new electric fish barrier can be briefly shut down for maintenance.

Wolf population rises, so do questions about endangered status

Though the endangered status of wolves is doubtlessly erratic, their actual population has been steadily rising, with 2009 as the sixth consecutive year the population has exceeded the Wisconsin state management goal of 350 wolves.
