As planned, we will have a conference call tomorrow afternoon at 2pm

Two important developments have occurred since the last call. Mark Young is
now officially under contract with the GLC and has begun working on the
RAPIDS redesign issue as of about a week ago. On tomorrow's call we will
continue our discussion of how this task will move forward, including a
general timeframe for developing and reviewing a framework for the
redesigned software and for initiating the programming.

The second development is an internal decision within the GLC to move all of
our large-scale databases, including the RAPIDS system, away from the Oracle
framework and onto an open-source platform call PostgreSQL
(http://www.postgresql.org/). The decision here is based largely on cost and
our belief that PostgreSQL is capable of handling our needs as effectively
as Oracle. Implications for access to the data should not be significant.
For the foreseeable future, we will continue supporting our current Oracle
database repository and the Oracle databases behind the CAROL system. Once
the switch is made to PostgreSQL, we don't believe there will be any
significant connectivity issues either. The major implication will be the
need to incorporate PostgreSQL into the reprogrammed RAPIDS and likely into
the CAROL web application. We can discuss this further tomorrow.
