Rich,
Rich,
Thanks for the quick response. I looked at the attached files, it seems
the fractions of b(a)p in PM10 are slightly different from what shown in
the documentation. Data with more significant digits are used in the
model. I will take your recommendation for the 2005 EI. Since the
model was not ready when we compiled the 2002 EI, we could not take the
advantage. We already did the work in RAPIDS for the 2002 EI, I will
not go back to change the numbers.
However, one thing I confirmed from your e-mail that the emissions are
for b(a)p not b(e)p. I will correct the state emissions. I didn't
report onroad emissions to EPA. Therefore, NEI emissions are not
affected.

To model toxics other than benzene, 1,3-butadiene, formaldehyde,
acetaldehyde, acrolein and MTBE, you need to use the MOBILE6 "ADDITIONAL
HAPS" command (see Section 2.8.3.8 of the MOBILE6 User's guide).
If you want to generate county level inventory estimates for B(a)P or
other MSATs, I recommend using the National Mobile Inventory Model,
which will do this for you automatically. Here is the link:
http://www.epa.gov/otaq/nmim.htm
Here are some additional HAPs files:
(See attached file: hap_wo_mtbe.csv)(See attached file: hap_base.csv)
(See attached file: hap_rfg_ethanol.csv)(See attached file:
hap_rfg_mtbe.csv)(See attached file: hap_wo_ethanol.csv)
FYI we do not use the data in these files for arsenic or mercury. We
concluded the underlying data used are not credible a few years back.
(We just finished a mercury test program designed to develop better
inputs for that pollutant and other metals.)
Here is a memo that describes the basis of the PAH inputs:
(See attached file: pahmeth2.pdf)
Let us know what the GLC comes up. It would be nice to improve our
inventory for this pollutant.

Hi, Rich,
The GLC states are doing a study on 2002 benzo(a)pyrene emissions.
Many states adopted emissions from NEI and obtained benzo(a)pyrene
emissions from onroad mobile sources. We run MOBILE 6 and estimated HAP
emissions followed EPA's methodology and didn't get benzo(a)pyrene
emissions. I checked the documentation at
ftp://ftp.epa.gov/EmisInventory/finalnei99ver3/haps/documentation/onroad
/nei_onroad_jan04.pdf
On Page 90, it states that "Factors for PAH emissions were provided by
the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Office of
Transportation and Air Quality (OTAQ). The EPA recommended that the
factors given as a fraction of PM10 be used instead of the VMT based
factors (Cook, 2001)."
A table lists emission factors for benzo(a)pyrene with a Contam Code,
192972. However, the Cas number for benzo(a)pyrene is 50328. The Cas
number 192972 is corresponding to benzo(e)pyrene. Could you let me know
which chemical you really mean in the table? Thanks.
