RE: RAPIDS repository updates

Cong,

Thanks for raising this. I’ve intended for a while to update the CAROL site to better handle documenting changes to the data after it’s publication. In addition to noting that changes may occur after the initial print or online publication, it’s important to document what changes were made and when so that if people note any inconsistencies in the data or other results they might derive from using it, we can trace these back to see if data updates have occurred.

The most straightforward way I can see of doing this is to add a section to the site that lists changes that have been made and provides details. I believe this can be set up in a way that Steering Committee members could add entries to that page and they could be viewed by all users of the site. I’ll work with the GLC IT staff in the coming weeks to implement this.

In the meantime, people should be keeping a record of the changes that have or are making to the data in the repository so that we can add this to the list of changes. Among the information we will probably want to include are:

Date of change

General description (what was changed and why)

Pollutant(s) affected

Geographic areas affected

SCC/SIC/NAICS affected

Approximate magnitude of changes

Contact person

We can discuss on the next conference call (Oct 18th).

Thanks again,

Jon

Subject: RAPIDS repository updates

Jon,

Per discuss, we will upload Ontario revised data to RAPIDS repository in next few weeks. The changes will affect other pollutants also not only Benzo(A)Pyrene. As a result, there will be discrepancies between regional report and CAROL. There is a paragraph in the regional report mentions this potential changes but there are none in CAROL. Peter suggests it is worthwhile to mention that in the CAROL also to avoid any questions might arise.

Cong,
