Internet meeting tools for RAPIDS design calls

Steering Committee,

On the last call we discussed using a set of internet conferencing tools during the RAPIDS programming calls that will be every other Wednesday, beginning 8/8. I’d like to use a portion of tomorrow’s Steering Committee call to introduce this set of tools and identify connectivity issues in advance so that we have a week to try to work them out. Below are some brief instructions. If possible, visit the website below a little before tomorrow’s call, because there is a component that must be downloaded and installed on your computer. I’m not sure if this component will trigger any permissions issues on people’s machines who have stringent restrictions on software installation. If so, we can deal with this over the course of the next week, as using the tool on tomorrows call is intended only for the purpose of identifying these very problems.

Go to the URL: https://glc.webex.com

In the set of Tabs just under the GLC logo, navigate to “Training Center” (if not already there)

To install the required “WebEx Training Manager” component: click on “Training Manager” under “Set Up” on the left-hand side navigation. Follow the instructions.

To join a meeting: click on “Live Session” under “Attend a Session” on the left-hand side navigation. Look for the appropriately titled session. Today, the sessions for tomorrow and 8/8 will be listed under the “future sessions” tab. Tomorrow, the 8/1 session should be under “today’s sessions.” When the meeting time approaches a “join now” links should be there. Click on this link, and enter the meeting with the password:

Audio for the meeting will be through our usual conference line:

Again, we’ll attempt to connect to the service for tomorrow’s call, but only for purposes of identifying connection errors we need to deal with and to briefly skim through what features are available. We will be using this service routinely for the RAPIDS programming calls (8/8 and bi-weekly thereafter), but not for our usual Steering Committee calls (8/1 and biweekly thereafter) unless there is a circumstance where it would be highly useful.

An agenda for tomorrow’s call will follow shortly.

Jon
