Industrial/Commercial Area Source Emission Factors for Manganese

FYI... in the 8/29/07 conference call, during Michigan's discussion of
elevated manganese levels in the Detroit area, I mentioned that I would
see if there were any manganese emission factors for stationary area
source commercial and industrial fuel combustion. However, WebFIRE and
FIRE 6.25 do not contain HAP emission factors for these categories.

Out of curiosity I applied the residential manganese emission factors
to the commercial and industrial area source fuel combustion activity
data. I'm not proposing to use the resulting manganese values in any
inventories, since the residential factors might be inaccurate for
commercial and industrial processes and control equipment, but they
might provide for discussion. The area source industrial combustion of
coal may be a significant category for manganese and other HAPs, based
on the estimate below of 357.29 lbs of manganese for Wayne County
(through use of the residential factor of 6.00E-03 lb/ton).

Category,	County,	Manganese (in lbs)

commercial combustion of distillate oil (stationary area
source)	Wayne	1.88
industrial combustion of distillate oil (stationary area
source)	Wayne	1.16
commercial combustion of natural gas (stationary area
source)	Wayne	11.88
industrial combustion of coal (stationary area source)
Wayne 357.29

Total Wayne
                              372.21

No industrial area source consumption of natural gas was estimated,
based on MAERS values for point source industrial consumption of natural
gas exceeding the statewide Michigan estimate for industrial natural gas
consumption from the Energy Information Administration.

No commercial area source combustion of coal was estimated, as point
source consumption of commercial coal exceeded the EIA's estimates of
total commercial coal consumption in Michigan.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
