Welcome to Beach Net-List Serve, Great Lakes Association for HealthyRecreational Waters

As promised at the Great Lakes Association for Healthy Recreational Waters
in Muskegon, Christine Manninen and I have set up a listserve for your the
Association's use. Thanks Christine!

Please suggest names and email address of people you think would benefit
from this BEACHNET. We've gone international with the addition of
Environment Canada so include Canadian potential members as well. Please
feel free to start using the listserve immediately. I will use it to send
you the minutes from the last meeting and conduct Association business.
Please share abstracts, recent presentations, summary, news, observations,
announcements, news articles, local meeting minutes and data. Let's also
get some discussion going. For instance, I would like to see some
discussion and opinions on the Beach Act, source determination, rapid
testing, prediction models, visitor safety, risk communication, indicator
organisms, methodology, and data networking. Comments on Association
business such as the kind of activities we should have at our annual
meetings are especially welcomed.

Welcome to the BeachNet listserv!

BEACHNET is a forum that seeks to facilitate communication and networking
between people interested in the improvement of recreational beach water
quality in the Great Lakes basin. The forum is sponsored by the Great Lakes
Association for Healthy Recreational Waters. Both the forum and listserv
membership are open to anyone interested in improving recreationalbeach
water quality, understanding bacteria contamination, developing better ways
to detect and monitor pollution, or monitoring and assuring
beach visitor's public health. The Association is presently made up of
members from federal, state, county and local agencies, public health
agencies, regulatory agencies, researchers, universities, and environmental
groups from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Environment
Canada. Our mission is the pursuit of healthy beach water conditions in
the Great Lakes area.

BEACHNET can also be used to conduct Association business, to make
announcements, and to share data online by participating 'members'.
Membership is free, and the only requirement is an interest in recreational
water quality in the Great Lakes area. To become a member of the
Association or list server, submit your name, affiliation, address, email,
phone number and interests to richard_whitman@usgs.gov. Please indicate
whether you want to be in the Association or only list server.

BEACHNET is a closed list. Only subscribers can post directly to the list.
Non-member submissions are forwarded to the list owner for approval.
BEACHNET is managed by Richard Whitman <richard_whitman@usgs.gov> and
hosted by
the Great Lakes Information Network (http://www.great-lakes.net).
