Re: Preliminary employee recruitment notice

Dear colleagues,
I have several projects beginning this summer and will be looking for
recent graduates in aquatic/soil/microbiological ecological sciences. The
candidates should have good analytical and writing skills and be willing to
grow into a position of greater independence over time. Summer employees
might also be acceptable but my projects tend to extend through August and
September. I would consider a post-doc as well if the extra cost is
justified by their contribution to the project. The new hire(s) will be
working with a team of aquatic ecologists, modelers, soil scientist and
technicians on a number of projects. At present we have the following new
activities at my lab:

1) Determine the efficacy of wetland restoration on E. coli loading in a
coastal stream, develop a model predicting the net hydrological and
microbiological effects of the restoration. Project with Indiana
University and Indiana DNR.
2) Develop a predictive model and characterize the E. coli concentrations
on a bathing beach at Indiana Dunes State Park. Project with Indiana
University.
3) Develop a regional forecast model for E. coli bacteria loading a various
beaches of southern Lake Michigan, Milwaukee to Michigan City. With
Milwaukee, EPA, Chicago, Gary, USGS-Mapping Section, CA.
4) Determine the fate of E. coli arising from Burns Ditch, IN in
downcurrent beaches of Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and City of Gary.
With City of Gary and Ind. Dept. Env. Management
5) Evaluation of a yet to be determined rapid testing technique for City of
Chicago.

If you know of anyone interesting in applying for a position, have them
send me a resume and perhaps cover letter explaining their interests and
availability. I will have to formally advertise but I wanted to get a feel
for potential candidates now and make sure that they get the announcement
when its ready.

Please feel free to pass this note along to other colleagues or locally
announce.
