Does your organization need a vessel for Great Lakes education purposes?
A 40-foot turn-of-the-century solid steel harbor tug boat, presently
dry-docked in Racine, Wisconsin, is available for donation to any
charitable organization with a Great Lakes education mandate. The
DOROTHEA M. GEARY is a vessel with a proud past. The world's first
electrically welded vessel, she was launched in July 1915 from Ashtabula
Ohio and, over the years, has served as a repair vessel for freighters,
a repair launch and an Eagle Scout training vessel. She has been owned
for the last decade by Ned Dikmen, publisher of Great Lakes Boating
magazine. Significant investment in recent years has included a new
superstructure, a 671 Detroit Diesel, and a bow thruster, among others.
Some further fabrication work is needed. Interested organizations and
individuals should contact Ned Dikmen in Chicago at 312-266-8400 or
