Hello,
This is Shannon Briggs from the Michigan DEQ. I am collecting some
written sanitary surveys from other states to get an idea of what others
are doing. I will ask first, but I think I will be able to share them
with the list serv.
It may be a good idea to conduct a sanitary survey each year---for
instance: a local beach along Lake Huron is no longer a swimmable beach
this year due to the low lake levels. The beaches that you thought you
had last year may not be available this year.
A sanitary survey may also be useful to document changes to the beach
area from year to year.

Hi, I'm Rich Badics with Washtenaw County Environmental Health.
Just a few quick questions......
1 Do you do a sanitary survey when opening a
bathing beach?
2 Do you do a sanitary survey each year on all
bathing beaches?
3 What does a sanitary survey consist of and do you
have it in writing?
I look forward to working with all of you!
Rich
