FYI.

The U.S. EPA just published their ETV protocol for Rapid Beach Water Quality Screening Technologies (*)
 http://www.epa.gov/etv/verifications/protocols-index.html

John F. Griffith at the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP) (#), cited in the refs has a white paper (2006) at http://cws.msu.edu/documents/Griffith_RapidIndWhitepaper.pdf ,
 a Technology Report (May 2006) at http://water.rutgers.edu/Source_Tracking/MicrobialSourceTracking/485_rapid_methods_II.pdf ,
and The New Jersey Agricultural Experimental Station at Rutgers has a Microbial Source Tracking (MST) website with lots of links at http://water.rutgers.edu/Source_Tracking/MST.htm

(*)  GENERIC VERIFICATION PROTOCOL FOR RAPID BEACH
WATER QUALITY SCREENING TECHNOLOGIES

The ETV Advanced Monitoring System Center, operated by

Battelle, has published the "Generic Verification Protocol for

Rapid Beach Water Quality Screening Technologies."  The

protocol may be used to verify the performance of screening

technologies that provide quantitative or qualitative measurements

of indicator bacteria, such as Enterococci and E. coli, in fresh,

brackish, and/or marine/coastal water samples.  The protocol is

available on the ETV Web Site at

http://www.epa.gov/etv/verifications/protocols-index.html.  For

more information about the protocol, opportunities for

collaboration, and/or opportunities to have a technology verified,

please contact Ann Louise Sumner, Battelle, at (614) 424-3973 or

sumnera@battelle.org.

(#)  I couldn't locate the SCCWRP at www.sccwrp.org altho they're listed at http://www.sfei.org/camp/
