Subject: two new papers
Hi Doug,
The latest issue of JGLR (34 #2) has two papers of interest to our
beaches group.
*Sources and Sinks of /Escherichia coli/ in Benthic and Pelagic Fish*
Dennis L. Hansen, John J. Clark, Satoshi Ishii, Michael J. Sadowsky and
Randall E. Hicks
pp. 228-234
(Finds that fish, especially benthic fish, have /E. coli/ but the source
appears to be birds and wastewater via sediments.)
*Impact of the Alga /Cladophora/ on the Survival of /E. coli,
Salmonella/, and /Shigella/ in Laboratory Microcosm*
Erik T. Englebert, Colleen McDermott and Gregory T. Kleinheinz
pp. 377-382
(Finds that /E. coli/ survives better in the /Cladophora/ than the
pathogens S/almonella/ and /Shigella/, calling into question its
suitability as an indicator.)
Cheers, Bill
