E-M:/ Congratulations to Tom Monosmith

Enviro-Mich message from asagady@sojourn.com

Congratulations are in order for Tom Monosmith of the Air Monitoring
Unit of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

We've just heard that Tom's creation, the MDEQ "SPOTS" software
is getting fairly massive distribution to schools in the SEMCOG
region as an educational tool in science lessons.

The SPOTS software displays historic ozone episodes in Southeast
Michigan and the Lake Michigan area, showing hourly ozone
concentrations, temperatures, and wind speed and direction in the
form of colored dots on a map.

The SPOTS software uses actual recorded ozone levels to
show how ozone levels build during episode day and show transport
over wide areas

The program is distributed as part of SEMCOG's
educational package and is accompanied by a teacher's booklet with
explanations and activities.

Let's hope that Tom's effort inspires some Michigan students for
further study in environment, computers and air quality standards.
