Citizens interested in understanding how electric utility deregulation will
affect the environment and economy of Michigan are alerted to a full day of
events in Lansing June 23.

>From 10 a.m. to noon that day, Urban Options Energy and Environmental
Demonstration House and the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission will
facilitate a presentation by David Moskovitz, Director of the Regulatory
Assistance Project, on "Electric Utility Deregulation:  Developing a
Regional Response."  A panel with representatives invited from the Board of
Water and Light, Consumers Energy, the cities of East Lansing and Lansing,
the state, and MEC will respond to the Moskovitz talk.  Persons interested
in attending should RSVP to Tri-County at 517/393-0342.

Beginning at 1 p.m., a coalition called Protect Michigan and the Institute
of Public Utilities at the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management at MSU
will sponsor "Electric Utility Restructuring:  Understanding the
Implications of Deregulation and Technical Change."  At 1 p.m., Dr. Harry
Trebing, a senior fellow at the Institute for Public Utilities will discuss
"Evolution of the Electric Utility Industry."  At 3 p.m., Bill Spratley
will discuss "Toward a New Regulatory Framework: Legislative and Regulatory
Reform Initiatives for the Power Industry."  At 6 p.m., Moskovitz will
present "The Social Costs and Benefits of Electric Utility Restructuring."

The events will take place at MSU's Kellogg Center Auditorium, 55 Harrison
Road in East Lansing.
