The DEQ budget bill for 1997-98 that will be considered by the House of
Representatives today lists the following sites for which $42.98 million in
cleanup monies are sought (to address acute environmental or health risks).
The list is substantially scaled back from past cleanup lists, and even
so, includes more sites than available funding will permit the state to
address. DEQ will need additional sources of revenue to maintain the
cleanup program by the end of the next fiscal year, particularly given
changes in liability standards that make more and more sites a public
responsibility. The bill contains a separate list of underground storage
tank cleanup sites. The list below represents other contamination sites:
