LANSING-The Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Division, will
conduct a series of three public meetings on August 5, 6, and 7, 1997, to
present information on the proposed conduct of four federally-assisted
projects: Northern Michigan Habitat Management, Southern Michigan Habitat
Management, Statewide Operations/Maintenance and Wetland Habitat, and
Ecosystem Planning/Technical Assistance.

The public meetings will be held at the following locations: Tuesday,
August 5, Gladstone DNR District Headquarters, 6833 Highways 2/41 and M-35,
Gladstone; Wednesday, August 6, Roscommon DNR Headquarters, 8717 North
Roscommon Road, Roscommon; and Thursday, August 7, MUCC Headquarters, 2101
Wood Street, Lansing. Each meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m.

The DNR's Wildlife Division administers over 300,000 acres of state game
and wildlife area lands for the restoration, conservation, protection, and
enhancement of wildlife and their habitats. These activities provide
Michigan's citizens and visitors with many hours of recreational
opportunities. The Wildlife Division also provides technical assistance on
wildlife habitat management on 3.8 million acres of state forest lands. In
addition, surveys and population management studies are conducted
statewide to monitor and improve species' status.

A portion of these programs is supported by federal Pittman-Robertson funds
generated from excise taxes on sporting arms and ammunition.

The public is invited to comment on these four new projects. The review
period will run from July 15 through August 15, 1997. Advance copies of
the proposed project plans will be available beginning July 10 and may be
obtained by writing or calling the DNR Wildlife Division at 517-373-1263,
P.O. Box 30444, Lansing, Michigan 48909-7944.
