     Clean Air Activists--

In the House, the fight is heating up. We need to keep up the pressure
and gain support from democrats and moderate republicans for
     protective air quality standards

On one side, we have the Waxman an Boehlert letters that are being
circulated in support of the new ozone and fine particulate standards.
About 60 dems and 10 repubs have signed on so far.

On the other is a bill (HR 1984), introduced by Ron Klink (D-PA), Rick
Boucher (D-VA), and Fred Upton (R-MI), to impose a four-year
moratorium on establishing new PM and ozone standards. According to
Klink's staff, the list of co-sponsors is growing. In fact, on
Tuesday, Bob Ney (R-OH) called on the co-sponsors of his anti-clean
air bill, The Job Protection Act, to support Klink's bill. Rumor has
it that Gingrich will put the Klink bill on a fast track for floor
consideration in September. As of this morning, the bill has 69
     co-sponsors, 29 dems and 40 repubs.

WE NEED TO FIRM UP SUPPORT TO BLOCK ANY POTENTIAL CONGRESSIONAL ACTION
THAT WILL DELAY IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW RULES. CONTINUE TO MAKE
CALLS, AND GET YOUR ACTIVISTS TO CALL REPRESENTATIVES URGING THEM TO
     SIGN THE WAXMAN/BOEHLERT LETTERS.
