E-M:/ Textile Rd. Superfund Site Hearing

Enviro-Mich message from "Julie Griess" <jgriess@provide.net>

The EPA will hold a public meeting on the proposed plan to clean up the
Textile Road Superfund Site in Ypsilanti Township. The meeting will be at
7PM on Wednesday Aug. 13 at the Ypsilanti Civic Center, 7200 S. Huron River
Drive. The public comment period is from July 30 to August 28. Comments go
to Denise Gawlinski, USEPA Region 5, 77 W. Jackson Blvd (P-19J), Chicago

The site is located just west of the Ford Rawsonville plant, and just east
of a trailer park. It is also bordered by agricultural land. It was used
for agriculture, and then there was gravel mining from 1947-1973. In the
80's, leaking 55-gallon drums were reported. It is contaminated with PCBs,
VOCs, and other organic and inorganic compounds.

EPA proposes off-site landfilling, and soils with greater than 500 mg/kg of
PCBs would be incinerated off-site. They list other alternatives and their
costs and time frames. They propose to clean the site to the criteria
established by the MDEQ for commercial/industrial cleanup.
