Job Announcement


Administrative Manager


The Michigan Land Use Institute is searching for an enthusiastic,
energetic, and versatile person to take on the challenging role of
Administrative Manager. The successful candidate will have the skills and
experience to ensure that a busy office can operate most efficiently and
effectively. At the same time, the Administrative Manager will be
responsible for coordinating member services, the volunteer network, and
public outreach in the community.


Administration

· Act as a personal assistant to the Executive Director and Associate Director
· Coordinate communications with Board members
· Set up and maintain an integrated filing system
· Manage the computerized database, and conduct regular quality checking
· Troubleshoot and track day-to-day problems with electronic systems;
coordinate with consulting technicians and schedule repair times for more
complicated problems
· Back up all computers to a tape drive monthly
· Work with project managers to package final grant proposals by compiling
appropriate addenda
· Coordinate bulk mailings
· Train and supervise the Assistant, who will perform basic administrative
tasks (see the Assistant job description)
· Cover basic administrative tasks when the Assistant is absent


Member Services

· Respond to inquiries and requests for assistance; direct members to the
staff person who can best provide guidance or service
· Organize and oversee direct mailings of announcements, updates, and
action alerts
· Contribute ideas for the member pages of the Great Lakes Bulletin
· Coordinate with the bookkeeper to maintain consistency in accounting for
member contributions

Volunteer Network

· Build a strong network of capable and dedicated volunteers
· Design a program for communicating with volunteers and scheduling work times
· Write up task lists for each activity, and coordinate volunteer training
· Meet with volunteers regularly to assess the effectiveness of the program


Public Outreach

· Support the Institute’s objective to generate greater awareness of our
work in the community, and build a strong and active membership
· Lead the planning for educational workshops, and for video and slide show
presentations
· Coordinate event scheduling, location set-up, publicity, refreshments
· Conduct follow-up, such as writing and calling to thank participants,
contributors, and new members


Fundraising

· Work with the Executive Director and the Board to broaden annual giving
support, up-grade giving levels, and provide for general operating expenses
· Organize semi-annual giving campaigns



Computer Skills: 
Familiarity with or aptitude for the Windows 95 operating system; Microsoft
Office (Word, Access, Excel); and a Local Area Network. Basic knowledge of
PC hardware.

Hours: Full-time
Salary & Benefits: Low to mid $20s, commensurate with experience
