NEWS RELEASE

ARCTIC NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE SLIDE SHOW SLATED AT KALAMAZOO VALLEY
COMMUNITY COLLEGE

The "Last Great Wilderness" is a superb slide presentation about this last
great American frontier. Sponsored by the Audubon Society of Kalamazoo and
the Kalamazoo Valley Chapter of the Sierra Club, this program will be
presented by Lenny Kohm, nationally known photographer and conservationist
who has volunteered his time, money and expertise to get the word out to the
public on the current threats by the petroleum industry that would despoil
this vast pristine wilderness for monetary benefit.

The Program will be presented at Kalamazoo Valley Community College (Texas
Township Campus, Room 4370) on Thursday September 18, 1997 at 7:30 PM.
Admission is free.

The presentation will put participants squarely on the tundra on the far
northeastern corner of Alaska where oil development threatens the survival
of
152,000 caribou, musk-oxen, dall sheep, polar bears, grizzlies, millions of
migratory birds, and a subsistence Native American culture.

For more information please contact Ilse Gebhard of the Audubon Society of
Kalamazoo at 616-375-7210.
