E-M:/ MEC's Lana Pollack honored

Enviro-Mich message from asagady@sojourn.com

Former State Senator and current President of the Michigan
Environmental Council, Lana Pollack, is being honored with
a one term fellowship at the Institute of Politics of the John
F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

The purpose of the Institute of Politics is to promote greater
understanding and cooperation between the academic world
and the world of practical politics and public affairs.

According to the Harvard University web site: "The institute
was created by friends and members of the family
of President John F. Kennedy as a living memorial to the late
President. Its founders anticipated creating programs that would
inspire students to enter careers in politics and public service,
much as the young John Kennedy was inspired during his years
at Harvard University. "

Lana Pollack was one of 6 Institute of Politics fellows selected for the
Fall, 1997 semester. Other notable past IOP fellows have been Lamar
Alexander, David Broder, Ron Brown, Kim Campbell, Barber Conable, Jr.,
Dan Evans, Geraldine Ferraro, David Gergen, Elaine Jones, Madeleine
Kunin, Lynn Martin, Richard Riley, Buddy Roemer, Bernard Sanders,
Mark Shields, David Stockman and Raul Yzaguirre.

Lana's fellowship will begin September 8; she will be back in Mid-December
to continue her duties as MEC president with the undenable supercharging
of this Harvard experience and even more national contacts
to lend to her environmental leadership activities in Michigan.

We will all miss Lana Pollack during this fellowship/sabatical, but
we'll look forward to her return with the first snows of winter and with
increased prestige for Michigan Environmental Council leadership
arising from her encounters at Harvard.
