E-M:/ business roundtable opposes clean air rules

Yesterday's Detroit Free Press reports, "Michigan's top corporate leaders
have decided to oppose proposed federal clean air meetings and to hold
subsequent meetings every six months."  It adds that the group is composed
of 42 top executives who hope to improve the economy and quality of life by
influencing decisions in Washington, D.C., and Lansing.

"It was a very, very successful meeting with a lot of enthusiasm for the
roundtable," Chrysler CEO Robert Eaton is quoted as saying.  It also notes
that Eaton is chair of Detroit Renaissance and "an outspoken opponent of
the proposed regulations, claiming they would hurt the state's economy."

Corporate members include Ameritech, Amway, ASC Corp., Autocam Corp.
Bissell, Budd, Chrysler, Comerica, CMS Energy, Detroit Edison, First of
America, Ford Motor, Foremost, GM, Haworth, Herman Miller, ITT Automotive,
Kmart, Lear, Masco, Mazda, MCN Energy, Meijer, NBD Bank, Old Kent Financial
Corp., Penske, Perrigo, Pharmacia/Upjohn, Prince Corp., Pulte Corp., SPX,
