The Sierra Club, in cooperation with the Huron Land Use Alliance and the
Citizens' Taskforce to Protect Farmland and Open Space invites bicyclists and
bus riders to register early for the "Tour de Sprawl" to be held on Saturday,
October 4rth (raindate October 5th) in Ann Arbor.

The 22-25 mile Tour will highlight problems and progress in local land use
planning. At multiple stops in urban and rural areas, speakers will address
specific issues such as watershed impacts, current subdivision design, mixed
land use, and purchase of development rights (PDR) programs.  Featured
speakers will include State Senator Alma Wheeler Smith; Washtenaw County Drain
Commissioner Janis Bobrin; Sierra Club Midwest Regional staffer Brett Hulsey;
Jeff Kahan, Ann Arbor City Planner; and Barry Lonik, Executive Director of the
Potawatomi Land Trust.

The Tour will begin and end at Burns Park (on Wells, which is off Packard
north of Stadium). On site registration starts at 9:00am.  A kick-off rally
will begin at 9:30am with Tour departure at 10:00am.  The Tour will end
between 1:00 and 1:45pm (bus riders back earlier than cyclists) with an
alcohol-free, live band party and refreshments.  One Tour stop will include
food, water and toilet facilities.  Helmet use is mandatory for cyclists.

judith.thompson@sfsierra.sierraclub.org and provide your name, address, phone
number, T-shirt size and intention to cycle or ride the bus.  Bus riders must
register by September 30 to reserve a seat.  Registration fees will be
collected on the day of the Tour. Advance registrants pay $5; Registrants on
the day of the Tour pay $7.

Participants will receive a Tour de Sprawl T-shirt, route map, and issue
information kit.

In case of inclement weather, an announcement about rain date rescheduling
will be available at (313) 677-2517 by 7:30am on October 4rth.
