NOW IS THE CHANCE
KEY HOUSE COMMITTEE TO HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC ON OIL AND GAS
Legislative Hearing set for October 9th, 7:00 p.m., in Gaylord

· Should drilling be allowed in the Jordan River Valley, and along the
Great Lakes shoreline?
· Should the state ban post production cost deductions on public and
private land?
· How should the state strengthen oversight of oil and gas drilling?

These are some of the questions the Michigan Land Use Institute, along with
a coalition of citizen groups, has worked on for more than two years. We
have carefully researched the facts, publicized the issues, and
communicated the concerns of citizens on oil and gas issues.

Now, that work is paying off. The Michigan House of Representatives is
entering the oil and gas debate. The House Forestry and Mineral Rights
Committee was formed earlier this year specifically to evaluate mineral
development. The Committee is holding a field hearing on October 9, from 7
to 9 p.m., in Gaylord.

The Committee is seriously considering policy reform. The members are
making a special trip to northern Michigan to hear from the public. Let
your thoughts be heard.

If you have been looking for an opportunity to voice your concerns and
offer suggestions about how to strengthen state oversight: This is the
time. We urge you to attend.
