GREAT LAKES INSTITUTE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH UNIVERSITY OF
WINDSOR AND CITIZENS ENVIRONMENT ALLIANCE of Southwestern Ontario

ANNOUNCE A ONE-DAY CONFERENCE ON

REHABILITATING AND CONSERVING DETROIT RIVER HABITATS

WHAT:

A binational conference on the scientific and management aspects of
rehabilitating and conserving Detroit River habitats will be held for all
interested stakeholders, including students, municipal officials, industry
representatives, business leaders, nongovernmental organization
representatives, provincial, state, and federal government representatives,
and other citizens.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this conference is to:

- Share successful experiences with habitat rehabilitation and conservation
from both sides of the Detroit River;

- Gain a better understanding of the effectiveness of these projects from an
ecosystem structure and function perspective (i.e., what ecosystem results
have been achieved);

- Identify potential opportunities to link habitat enhancement with other
remedial activities addressing other use impairments (e.g., dredging,
brownfield redevelopment); and

- Identify future priorities and opportunities for research, funding, and
further action to rehabilitate and conserve Detroit River habitats.
