Anti-Auto Crusader to Speak in Detroit, Lansing, and Ann Arbor

        Prize-winning journalist Jane Holtz Kay, author of Asphalt Nation:
How the Automobile Took Over America and How We Can Take It Back, will
speak at four  events in Detroit, Lansing, and Ann Arbor January 30 -
February 1.  A complete schedule is below.

        Jane Holtz Kay is the author of Lost Boston and Preserving New
England.  She is the architecture critic for The Nation and has written for
The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Christian Science Monitor, and
other publications.  Asphalt Nation describes the environmental, economic,
and cultural damage brought on society by the automobile, and the solutions
that can steer us out of the mess.  Listed as a "must read" in USA Today's
"Best Bet," the book has been praised by reviewers writing in publications
from Business Week to Sierra Magazine.  According to the New York Times, it
"succeeds in proving that it is possible to get where we are going without
destroying where we live."
