E-M:/ Re: veggie libel & USDA

Enviro-Mich message from "Molly Cole" <COLE@maelstrom.cc.wmich.edu>

Speaking of organic growers in Michigan. Not only are they threatened at the
State level but Michigan has had some of the highest standards for organic
certification in the country and those are now being threatened at the
federal level. It's not too late to change the recommendations that would
allow food that is genetically engineered, fertilized with sewage sludge,
and/or irradiated to be sold as organic.

Even if you you don't consider any of the above to be a problem. Truth in
labelling should be an important issue for all of us.

The Organic Growers of South West Michigan will be meeting February 24 at
7:30 p.m. at the World Tree Center on the north end of the Kalamazoo Mall to
present information on the USDA recommendations and to get people to write
letters. The press is invited. For more information you can contact
