E-M:/ Engler's $500 million bond....

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enviro-Mich message from asagady@sojourn.com
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today's Detroit News has an article about Engler/Republicans backing
out of the deal about cleaning up riverfront sites in
Detroit because they may be used to construct Casinos. See:

http://detnews.com/1998/metro/9803/02/03020117.htm

The article also touches on the multimillion dollar giveaways to Lafarge
Corporation
to move their cement plant on the riverfront near the RenCen. Lafarge, of
course,
is, at the same time, trying to escape liability for the National Gypsum
cement kiln dust piles in Alpena that are washing arsenic into
Lake Huron/Thunder Bay so the taxpayer will pay for the cleanup. This
type of evasion was made possible by the Engler-led trashing of Michigan's
environmental response law on behalf of insurance companies, banks,
land developers, ignorant Michigan mayors and irresponsible
corporations.
