EMEAC Workshop To Encourage Environmental Activism. 

Barbara Stanton, Detroit Free Press Editorial Staff, and Elise Lancaster,
Michigan Legislative Staff, will speak on May 12 at the Nativity Episcopal
Church in Bloomfield Hills.  Ms. Stanton, who has worked at the Detroit Free
Press since 1963, excluding 22 months on strike, will describe how you can get
news coverage for issues that concern you.  She spent eight years covering
environmental issues for the editorial page and will describe how to get
"Letters To The Editor" chosen for print.  She will also describe instances
when a Free Press editorial opinion influenced the outcome of an environmental

Ms. Lancaster, Chief of Staff to Senator Gary Peters (D-14), will describe why
and how to communicate with legislators.  Do letters count from people who
aren't big campaign contributors?  Are personal letters more effective than
form letters?  Do legislators read email messages?  Ms. Lancaster will answer
these questions and more.

The church is located at 21220 West 14 Mile Road, between Lahser and
Evergreen/Cranbrook, approximately three miles north of I-696.  Open to the
