E-M:/ drinking water bill goes to governor

The Legislature completed work on, and sent to the Governor this week H.B.
5136, which amends Michigan's safe drinking water act.  Key changes permit
the state to award grants to communities for the development of wellhead
protection plans, and establish new right-to-know provisions regarding
contaminants in drinking water supplies.  Both changes were advocated by
environmental groups and crafted into the bill by its sponsor, Rep. Jon
Jellema.
