Enviro-Mich message from davemec@voyager.net (dave dempsey)

On Thursday, April 2, the US Senate defeated the Lautenberg amendment
to the Budget resolution by a 47-52 vote. The Lautenberg amendment
called for establishing a fund for environmental and natural
The fund includes the President's initiatives for Clean Water and
Watershed Restoration, Public Lands Operations and Acquisition, and
Superfund clean-up.

This is only the first of several votes for the Clean Water Budget
Initiative. Even though the amendment failed, there is still a chance
to fight for funding for the Clean Water Initiative through the
appropriations process. This will begin after Congress gets back from
their Easter recess (April 21). You may want to visit with your elected
officials while they are in their home offices and tell them that you
support funding for clean water.

Below is a copy of the roll call vote on the Lautenberg Amendment to the
Senate Budget resolution for those interested.
Also, the short debate on the amendment can be found in the April 1st
