The other problem with garbage in the trash is that it contaminates the
trash, making sorting for recycling of paper, cardboard, etc.. a nasty,
stinky or impossible job (if the paper's soaked  with slime.)

I would vote for the disposal if your trash hauler does some sorting and
recycling,  but trash if it's all going to a land fill.  At least the sewage
treatment plant is built to handle organics...  but in the land fill it
might become useful methane some day...

Anybody know how much of the treatment plants loading is from food disposal
and what its effect on operation or sizing is?

How about an apartment compost bin?  Or a separate garbage pickup container
by the city trashfolk...
