Larry Zahm is spending $195,000 for 97.5 acres on The Ridge, prime farmland in
northern Kent County. He wants to grow corn and soybeans but also prevent
something else from sprouting.
"I want to stop the houses from being built," the Alpine Township man said
Thursday night. "Somebody's gotta start to look out for our grandkids'
future."

A judge has ruled in favor of a Pittsfield Township developer facing a
referendum against his proposed subdivision by declaring agricultural zoning
on the property unconstitutional.

their opinion on the U.S. 31 Grand Haven bypass issue.

PORTAGE _ Two key developers say they don't object to recommended tougher
zoning for projects in a proposed Downtown Development Authority.
Roger Hinman and Joshua Weiner said they can accept the city's plans to rezone
more than 60 acres of a proposed 110-acre DDA as Commercial Planned
Development, a new zoning that would give the city more control over
development within the district.

Residents who live near Kalamazoo's Whites Road and Bronson Boulevard were
pleased in January when they successfully fought off a proposed condominium
development.
