Rep. Kirk Profit today released an "interim draft report" of his
subcommittee to explore the environmental sensitivity of the Michigan tax
code, and said he is forming a work group to develop specific legislation
on the most promising ideas he has heard since the subcommittee began
meetings last November.

"After this report is released, it is the intent of the chair that the
environmental tax subcommitee will continue to meet and address specific
policy goals aimed at making Michigan's tax code more environmentally
sensitive. To accomplish this objective, a workgroup will be convened and
the stakeholders will be invited to help iron out policy considerations and
impacts that these innovative and challenging concepts will present,"
Profit said.

The report lists 17 ideas for greening Michigan's tax code, but also
singles out four subject areas for special attention: pollution
prevention, urban sprawl, recycling, and alternative fuel vehicles.
