Come to our Second Annual Innovative Land Use Design Awards, May 13, in
Ann Arbor:

The Huron Land Use Alliance has recognized the following developers,
designers and organizations for their work on projects that encouraged
or used innovative methods to preserve open space, utilize land
efficiently and promote livable communities.

 The Barrister at 614 Monroe St. in Ann Arbor is being recognized for
promoting Infill Development in existing urbanized areas.  Luckenbach,
Ziegelman and Partners, architects, and Jack Stegman, developer,
designed and constructed this 4 unit, Georgian style apartment building
which integrates well with the surrounding neighborhood.
 
 The Courthouse Square Apartments will be recognized for Adaptive Reuse
by converting the abandoned Ann Arbor Inn to a senior citizen apartment
complex in downtown Ann Arbor.  The First Centrum Corporation is nearing
completion of the project.
 
 The Coalition to Protect Farmland and Open Space in Washtenaw County
is being recognized for encouraging Open Space Preservation.  This
citizens group promoted the open space protection initiative that will
be placed on the ballot in Washtenaw County in November.
 
 The Ann Arbor News is being recognized for Education for their ongoing
series on land use called, "The Changing Landscape".  This series has
raised awareness of land use issues in Washtenaw County.

The Huron Land Use Alliance is an organization of groups and individuals
that promotes environmentally and fiscally sound land use planning in
the Huron Valley region.  Our mission is to encourage innovative land
use practices that preserves natural features, curbs
urban sprawl, uses land efficiently and promotes more livable
communities.
