Washtenaw County's parks tax renewal will be on the Aug. 4 primary ballot to
avoid competition - and confusion - with a potentially controversial farmland
preservation millage issue in November.

GREEN OAK TOWNSHIP - The township will appeal a judge's decision that
overturned a citizen referendum to halt higher-density building on a 22-acre
parcel near Rickett and Hammel roads.

Government bureaucrats in charge of Michigan's annual salmon harvest may be up
a creek after an Indian tribe declined to renew its contract to haul tons of
dying fish out of several rivers.

GRAND HAVEN - An existing federal research station in Muskegon - not Grand
Haven's former water treatment plant - should be the location of a national
freshwater research center, according to a draft proposal that involves using
both facilities.

and austerity.
An abundant water supply has allowed residents to escape harsh rations common
in other states, but Saginaw officials broke from the past this week when they
announced a plan that will limit such outdoor activities as sprinkling lawns,
filling swimming pools and washing cars.

BRIGHTON - Despite their high hopes, a group of Brighton High School students
will not be entering their solar-electric car in a race scheduled to start
this weekend.
