2. TIMBER SALES ACROSS THE NATION CHALLENGED
Forest Guardians has recently appealed 16 economically inefficient sales
throughout the country challenging the Forest Service's failure to
"maximizes long term net public benefits." The appeals argue that
standing forests and their long-term value for hunting, fishing,
recreation and long-term productivity far out weigh the short-term value
of logging them. John Talberth and Bryan Bird are currently monitoring
another 240 timber sales on 126 National Forests for adverse economic
effects. They are tracking location, size, forest types, economics, road
construction and NEPA time frames.
