ONE EASY PHONE CALL, FAX, OR LETTER COULD HELP STOP BILLBOARD BLIGHT!
(Visit http://www.house.state.mi.us/locate.html to locate your State
Representative and get contact info.)

After sitting in the House Transportation Committee for over a year,
Senate Bill 341 (Bennett, R-Canton) banning tobacco advertising on
billboards has finally made its way to the House floor, where I'm afraid
it will sit untouched without your help. Speaker of the House Curtis
Hertel has no intention of putting this bill on the House agenda because
of his strong ties to the billboard industry. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR STATE
REPRESENTATIVE and urge them to put the pressure on Hertel to give this
bill a chance to be voted on, because he should be listening to the
citizens of Michigan, not the billboard lobbyists!

This bill is a posititve step in the fight against billboards in
Michigan. With your help, we can eliminate one of the biggest customers
and financial supporters of the billboard industry, tobacco companies,
and weaken the outdoor advertiser's ability to pollute our roadsides.
Also, the public's health, particularly children, will benefit by
eliminating tobacco billboard advertising.

YOUR MESSAGE TO YOUR REP IS SIMPLE AND EASY TO CONVEY:
You are a voter in their district
You think billboards are ruining Michigan's scenic beauty
You think regulations on outdoor advertising need to be increased
You think they should support SB 341 because it will reduce billboard
blight in Michigan

Without the help of billboad haters contacting their legislators in the
past, SB 341 would have never gotten through the Senate and out of the
House Transportation Committee. Our legislature is STRONGLY influenced
by billboard lobbyists. Please communicate your feelings about
billboards to them TODAY!
