E-M:/ High Smog Prediction for the Weekend

Enviro-Mich message from "Alex J. Sagady & Associates" <ajs@sagady.com>

The Air Quality Division of the Michigan Department of
Environmental Quality has declared an Ozone Action Day
for Saturday for both west Michigan and Southeastern Michigan.

Sunday will also be an ozone action day for Southeastern Michigan

Predicted weather conditions are such that smog conditions which
may exceed health standards can occur during these times.

The public is urged to cut back on activities which may generate the
precursor pollutants for ozone formation.

Individuals with pre-existing respiratory diseases may want to limit
outdoor exercise and exposures when smog problems are occurring.

More details on AQD's alert can be had at:

on the "Ozone Action" homepage. Thanks to some dedicated
DEQ-AQD civil servants in the AQD Air Monitoring Unit, this
homepage is one of the best in the United States for informing
the public of ozone monitoring results.

During such alerts, AQD has in the past allowed their site to
display realtime numbers in the last hour for members of the public
to determine what local ozone monitors are reporting. I don't know
if this will be occurring with the change to the new 8 hour ozone standard.
