According to the DEQ's June 18 press release, "Toxic emissions from Michigan industries continue to decline, falling by more than 16 percent in the most recent reporting year...Michigan facilities reported the release of 56 million pounds of toxic chemicals in 1996, a 16.6 percent reduction from 1995 and a 31.3 percent drop from 1994." Moreover, offsite transfers for further waste management decreased 2.4 percent rom 1995, a 10.5 percent decrease from 1994. Check out the DNR home page at http://www.deq.state.mi.us/ead/sara.....EAD has also done an analysis on the effectiveness of pollution prevention, as evidenced by the data, building on some methods pioneered by Minnesota.
