E-M:/ cso database funding approved

Enviro-Mich message from Dave Dempsey <davemec@voyager.net>

Those interested in tracking the amount of untreated sewage that flows into
Michigan's lakes and streams may have a new tool within 6 months. Governor
Engler's signature on the DEQ appropriation bill Monday approves a $50,000
sum to establish a combined sewer overflow data base. Section 703 of H.B.
5589 reads: "Public access to this data base and testing protocols to
assess the impact of combined sewer overflows shall be provided within 6
months after the effective date of this act." Last year, the Governor
vetoed this item.

Engler also let stand a $100,000 appropriation for the cleanup of Lake St.
Clair proposed by Rep. Bill Callahan and Sen. Ken DeBeaussaert.
