Recent Environmental stories on Michigan Live:

GLADWIN - State timber practices prompt controversy.

Plans are quietly moving forward for creating a water authority to build a
$270-million pipeline to Lake Huron as little progress is reported in contract
talks between Flint and Detroit over future water sales.

City Hall must work harder to sell water beyond Jackson's city limits,
according to an efficiency study that goes to the City Council Tuesday.
The study, prepared by a consulting firm in Novi, urges a regionalized water
system, including a regional water board.

One issue clouding water relations between the city of Grand Haven and Grand
Haven Township -- construction of a 30-inch township transmission main -- may
be cleared up soon.

OTSEGO - The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality is seeking help from
people with any information about three Allegan County landfills containing
hazardous waste.
The information could help officials at the state's Environmental Response
Division in Otsego identify companies that generated waste found in the
landfills. And, if the companies agree to cover cleanup costs, the information
could save taxpayers millions of dollars, state officials say.

About 900 students walked into Chelsea's new $27 million high school today, an
example of the area's spreading residential growth.
Crowding is a familiar theme for school districts north and west of Ann Arbor
in general. The Pinckney and Dexter school districts plan to open their own
new multi million-dollar high schools in one and three years, respectively.

Swartz Creek - Tonya Ketzler's flower shop has bloomed quietly for years at
the Miller and Morrish roads intersection, the heart of downtown.
But she knew the town's tranquility couldn't last forever.
As fast-food giants Burger King and Wendy's wait to move into the city's
Miller-Elms Road-I-69 corridor, Rite Aid has its sights set on the southeast
corner of Miller and Elms.
