E-M:/ Kempthorne ESA to be offered....look out endangered species

In case you have not heard, Senator Dirk Kempthorne will offer his
Endangered Species Act reauthorization bill as a rider to the Senate
Interior Appropriations bill as early as this evening, Tuesday,
September 15. The conservation community has between four and
forty-eight hours to express our extreme displeasure with this latest
attempt to contort and gut the ESA. Members of the Endangered Species
Coalition have requested that all activists join them in calling and
faxing letters to Democratic and Eastern Republican Senators urging them
to oppose the Kempthorne bill.
This bill will absolutely destroy the Endangered species act. It will:
1. Codifies notorious "no surprises" doctrine, locking in worthless
management plans for 50-100 years, regardless if new science shows that it
is actually harming the species.
2. Weakens endangered species protection.
3. Pay landowners to allow endangered species to go extinct
4. Legislates by rider, abusing democratic processes.
Please call Senator Levin and tell him to vote NO for this rider. This is
a bill that is opposed by the entire environmental community.
Senator Bryan's amendment to alter the forest service budget is still
going to be offered, so while you are talking to Levin's staff, please
encourage him to vote yes for it.
